Hello Everyone and Happy September! We like to help our partners, so if this looks interesting to you give Jenny a call!
Louie’s Kids is still looking for volunteers to help with a new partnership we are doing – GROWING MINDS – at Mary Ford Elementary School in North Charleston for the 2015 -2016 school year, starting Tuesday, September 1st.
The current garden program was started at Mary Ford Elementary in North Charleston by Jena Walldorf two years ago. This year she has joined forces with Growing Minds to further enhance the science portion of the garden program. Growing Minds founder and instructor, Katie Donohoe, provides students with standards based science lessons in the garden as well as the supplies and knowkedge to grow crops thoroughout the school year.
Louie’s Kids is also partnering on this project as it not only teaches kids the science of growing healthy food but it also incorporates a fitness program into each visit was well.
Volunteers are needed the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month for the remainder of the school year (a total of 18 Tuesdays). The hours are between 9:00 am and 1:30 pm. Volunteers could sign up to be there for the entire day or from 9 – 11:15, and 11:00 to 1:30.
Volunteers will conduct short sessions of physical activities with students as their classes rotate through the program. Kelly Thompson will set a curriculum for the year so all you need to do is lead the classes in these fun, healthy activities.
If you would like to participate, please email Jenny, ASAP!
